it's automatic! for chargers and power packs
As a minibus driver I have to keep my phone in sight by mounting it directly on the air vent (I don't like mounting it on the dashboard or window), my old one rattling in the holder and falling on the floor lol but not the one you put your phone in and the sides retract to keep it in place and won't budge. I am really happy
