Suction sucks!: vacuum cleaners and floor care

A month ago I returned a brand new Shark. I wanted to try again. It's the same problem. The vacuum only vacuums the surface of the carpet and doesn't vacuum deep into the carpet at all as far as I can tell. I am so disappointed because the first Shark I bought 3 years ago is wonderful - Navigator DLX! Wanted to buy another one for work. Does anyone know if Shark makes good vacuum cleaners or if they are all junk now?
