There's a reason Mercedes Benz charge extra for OEM part

I have a 2014 GLK350. The first place I went to have this cable replaced was a dealer who didn't have it in stock and wanted $124 for a special order. When I saw this cable I thought why not? The cable came quickly and was connected to the console. Unfortunately I could not recognize any of my Apple devices. I've tried iPhone, iPad and iPod. There is no joy. I would give it one star but at least it charges my iPhone in the car.
