This is an old book revisited but it contains the basics and lots of history. It's dated, so if you're looking for something flashy 2000s you'll be disappointed, it's more of a 1970s in the sections that talk about adapting blackwork to 'modern' design. It doesn't bother me, but it might bother you. I think the book's other merits far outweigh this particular detail, and even with outdated 'new' designs, it gives you a good base to create your own embroidered pieces using various blackwork stitches.
