Review on πŸ”½ Nesco MS-2-6 Clean-a-Screen for FD-1010/FD-1018P/FD-1020 Dehydrators - Large, Set of 2, White by Kari Miller

Poor quality control

We have a Nesco Gardenmaster model FD1010 dehydrator that has thirteen bowls and only eight mesh screens, which really means we only used eight bowls. Using the other five strainerless trays was so annoyingly difficult to remove dried tomatoes etc that we didn't use them. We ordered 3 sets of MS-2 (two screens per set) to solve this non-use problem. The new screens are not like ours. The new ones look as if they were hot stamped from a sheet of plastic and only three of the six fabrics had all their meshes fully open. On the other three, about twenty-five percent of the holes were covered with the remnants of a very thin sheet of plastic on the back of the screen, as if the press didn't push hard enough to remove all of the holes. These covered holes are located around each of eight evenly spaced 0.5cm solid plastic circles, located halfway from the large hole in the center of the screen and around the outer perimeter. This changes the airflow and causes something on those fabrics to dry unevenly in relation to the drying time of the other fabric. I won't bother returning these and will live with three good ones. I tried using an orbital sander on the back to see if I could remove enough of the back to clean up the holes but was unsuccessful. 07/27/12 - I used three screens along with the old original grid. screens for a week. I dried 2485 Juliet tomatoes and a few steak size tomatoes. Dried fruit is much easier to remove from the three new nets than from the original ones. With the old nets, the net has to be folded and separated into pieces; with the new ones, the fruit practically slips off under slight pressure. Too bad about the closed holes in the remaining three out of six screens.
