I have been using this system for a few months now. I'm an engineer in the live video industry for medical devices (surgical video) and I'm SO impressed with the video quality of this Lorex system! I chose analogue because I've been using Panasonic's digital IP system (Ethernet and WiFi webcam, c. 2010?) for years and wanted something with continuous one-way video streaming, higher resolution and better sensitivity without me having to rely on 2-way digital handshaking to work due to the history of Panasonic's digital system of frequently stalling or having weird hover delays or the like. This system continuously streams video to the DVR, by default the DVR just records everything that comes in and you won't have much recording time if you leave it like that, even with a 2T hard drive. I've set my setup to only record when motion is detected and now I'm getting over a month of recorded video for all channels, great! As for color night vision: YES IT HAS COLOR NIGHT VISION when even the slightest amount of ambient light is available as stated by Lorex. For example, from the side of my house, the camera is ALWAYS in color mode (24/7) due to the street light, which is not very bright but gives enough light to keep the camera in color mode. In total or near total darkness, the camera turns on its own infrared (IR) LED illumination and also switches to black and white, with incredible resolution, dynamic range and signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, given the camera's small size . an IR LED on the camera. Reviewers who complained that this system didn't have color night vision either didn't read the specs carefully or didn't understand the basics of video and lighting. There is one downside though - I would like the system to have microphones on the cameras and be able to record sound along with video. Video. So if you don't mind running cables this system is amazing even considering the price trust me I spent LOTS more on a Panasonic IP system 10 years ago and am getting a lot with this new one better performance. an analogue system, which I guess is not surprising given the improvements in video sensor capabilities over the last few years (driven by the cellphone industry). Thank you from me!
