Review on πŸ”₯ WB13K21 Replacement Igniter from the PRYSM Range by Russ Freeman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy installation saves hundreds of dollars over a new oven!

Our old GE Profile JGB902BEH2BB gas oven started to fail and either took a long time to heat up or didn't heat up at all. After searching YouTube ("Kenmore Gas Oven Doesn't Get Hot") I was relieved to know that we probably didn't need to replace the oven, just that igniter. The exchange took about an hour just because of the many tests, but is easily completed in 10 minutes. lower pan - this shows the "Bake" igniter and gas tube (The "roast" igniter and gas tube are at the top of the oven chamber) 4) Test the existing igniter by setting the oven to "Bake" " - for me the igniter glowed orange, but the gas ignited in about 10 minutes! (On later attempts, the gas ignited faster, possibly because the igniter was already hot.) 5) Turn off the stove and remove it from the niche. 6) Unplug the oven and turn off the gas side of the igniter 8) Turn off the igniter OR remove the existing ceramic wire nuts and note which wires were connected (take a picture) - I had wire nuts 9) Compare the old and new igniter - the new one was almost identical to my old one (2nd photo) 10) Fit the new igniter OR if using wire nuts cut the wires on the new one to at least the same length as that old ones (longer ones are always easier to work with), strip the ends about 1/4 inch, remove insulation as well as the inner metal foil (I didn't make a good connection the first time because of the foil), then twist each set of wires together and secure with ceramic wire nuts secure - I had to trim the ends to make them blunt so the nuts will grip them securely; The new wire nuts have an even larger internal diameter, so I'm not sure they'll work well - you may need to bend the wires. 11) Insert the wires and nuts back into the hole in the bottom of the oven, being careful not to knock off the nuts or position them in a way that could cause them to fall or come loose. 12) Replace the 2 screws on the pilot side. 13) Reconnect the oven, turn on the gas, set the "baking mode" - the new igniter lit up bright yellow, and the gas caught fire after a few seconds! 14) Reinstall the bottom panel and the two screws at the back, then the oven shelves. 15) Slide the stove back into the alcove. 16) Bon appetit!

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
