Original review (be sure to read the update below): I am listed for a used car and wanted to check if the car was previously painted. I have a car that had an accident that required the trunk and back panel to be replaced and repainted. The reading in these areas was 0.15, exactly the same as the rest of the car. I had one factory panel that tested 0.1 and another factory panel that tested 0.2 but the rest of the car was all 0.15 including the repainted trunk and tail. So unless the shop somehow managed to repaint the trunk and back panel to the same thickness as the factory, I'd say the color gauge is useless. Also, there were no batteries in my kit. I had to go and buy some batteries. Don't waste your money on this counter, spend double to get a better one. UPDATE: Contacted the company and offered to send a replacement. I accepted their offer and it seems to be working fine. Newly painted areas consistently show higher values than factory panels. Now I am happy. I changed from 5 to 4 stars simply because I was going through the frustration that the first one didn't work properly.
