Review on Long-Lasting Protection: Kidde 21010047 C3010D Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Digital Display and 10 Year Sealed Battery by David Bowens

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My family had previously been poisoned by carbon monoxide. So we bought these

After my family was diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning (long lasting and low level poisoning over several years that resulted in multiple emergency room visits and doctor visits before diagnosis), I have a TON Conducted research on carbon monoxide detectors. We used to have a normal detector that NEVER sounded! I found the rules for detectors relatively loose, so I was picky about what to replace them with. As soon as the problem with our oven was identified and we replaced the unit, we ordered this carbon monoxide alarm. My consolation is that every night I can press the "Peak" button and see what the highest reading was (up to 11ppm). What you need to know about CO alarms: They are not the same! The regulations do not require carbon monoxide alarms to go off when carbon monoxide is present in the air unless it reaches a certain level and STAYS there for a certain period of time. While the alarm on this device may not sound if the level reaches 11ppm, it will let you know if you check to see if it EVER reached 11ppm. After what we've just been through, this is a worthwhile investment. Limits should not exceed 5-9ppm for residential applications (depending on the health authority you request). So it makes sense to have a device that tells you when the level exceeds that level.

Pros
  • Very good value
Cons
  • Doesn't fit all
