The battery failed prematurely, Kidde did not honor the warranty

The battery in this detector that was supposed to last 10 years only lasted two years. A month ago I sent the unit back to Kidde at my own expense and asked for a replacement under warranty. They received the package, but they didn't answer me, which doesn't surprise me - they replace the recalled faulty fire extinguishers very slowly, but that's more like the same bad service. I have already purchased the First Alert Block to replace it. I would recommend that you opt for a different unit from

Pros
  • Permanent test results
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

After my family was diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning (long lasting and low level poisoning over several years that resulted in multiple emergency room visits and doctor visits before diagnosis), I have a TON Conducted research on carbon monoxide detectors. We used to have a normal detector that NEVER sounded! I found the rules for detectors relatively loose, so I was picky about what to replace them with. As soon as the problem with our oven was identified and we replaced the unit, we…

Spark plug test done - CO sensors work!

Just received it today, but so far so good! The carbon monoxide sensor is definitely working since I did a little test. I suspected that my apartment might have low CO levels due to the heating system in my house. I hope I'm wrong, but I still decided to get a carbon monoxide alarm with a digital display so I can monitor it. I wasn't sure about lithium batteries but replaceable battery packs are sold out so I went with these. Box opened (production date 2/2108, not bad but not great as it's…

Pros
  • Hands-free calling

It works out? - Safety

I bought this because our fireplace sometimes has a draft and I wanted to make sure the CO levels never got dangerously high. This device seemed decent enough to me when I received it. As soon as I put the back cover on, it immediately came to life with a loud beep (test) and then a zero appeared on the LCD. Zero stayed there. And he stayed there for some time, firm and imperturbable. That should be reassuring, right? Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not one to take things for granted…

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure

Absolutely REQUIRED for Airbnbs and other vacations. . .

Bought these before visiting AirBnb in Utah with family for a few days. Upon entering the apartment, it was discovered that the detectors were missing batteries. Likewise . . . a "warning" that "the fireplace hasn't been working properly recently" i.e. it has been "turned off". Who wants to spend the first few hours of a holiday arguing with the owner about what should have been done before we arrived? I always take them with me when I travel. . . and I had 4 of these in my carry-on (because…

Pros
  • Great price
