Review on πŸ“‘ Cisco-Linksys E3000 Wireless-N Router: Superior Speed and Reliability for Seamless Internet Connectivity by Shawn Lamp

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not perfect, but works as long as you download alternative firmware!

As with most routers I've seen here at Revain, the ratings are low and there are many complaints. And like most routers I buy, I only select the ones that I can install DD-WRT on. My home setup uses three routers, all connected on the same subnet. Because this router and my WRT-400N have dual radios (2.4GHz and 5.0GHz), neither is my primary router and they serve me more as remote switches and remote wireless access points. (I'm running an E2000 with the radio turned off on the "Network" shelf in the basement, which powers both routers and also connects the two NAS boxes.) Although the router is stable with its current firmware, I sometimes need to boot it up Reboot the router to restore the weak wireless network condition. I also cannot use the USB port with the printer. (It worked once and only once. Hasn't since, although everything worked fine on the command line!) I feel like I just need to go through a few different firmware builds to find one that works properly. . As for the main hardware, the router is fine. And the body is actually larger than the E2000 and WRT-400N (which use an identical body, albeit different colors). I can only recommend Linksys routers if they can be loaded with DD-WRT firmware. This makes them something much better, highly customizable and often much more stable than OEM firmware. I uploaded firmware to five of these routers and none of them were blocked. Don't be afraid to try, but please read the instructions on the DD-WRT website carefully.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
