I'm an engineer by trade, working with manufacturers and inspecting precision parts. You can find the best product at your local warehouse or at Loues. I bought this combo square set hoping to get something of a higher quality than what is available at online hardware stores without spending $$$ on an asterisk. The markings are not pronounced enough to see without above-average lighting and angles. Shiny metal and poor quality markings often result in low contrast to the markings, making them difficult or impossible to see without repositioning or rotating the workpiece. However, I have not measured or quantified the accuracy, even with a thumbscrew. fully tightened scales are easy to move. I am ultimately happy with the Empire brand combo squares which I bought for <$10. If you are interested in the next level of quality and precision, spend your money and choose Starrett.
