Review on General Tools IRT207 Laser Temperature Gun, Mid-Range 8:1 Thermal Detector, Infrared Thermometer by Jonathan Clark

I bought this thermometer for my reptile grow room. I have never used it to measure temperatures above 110F or below 75F and cannot verify accuracy for temperatures outside of that range. However, it proved to be accurate to within 2 degrees. All thermal imager readings were taken 12 inches from the target and measured with a tape measure prior to taking the temperature. I tested the accuracy of this thermometer using sensor devices from my campus chemistry lab. The lab sensor was placed on my reptile breeding shelf right on the bottom of the test tanks. In most cases, the Heat Seeker will read temperatures within 1.6 degrees of the lab sensor. When measuring the highest temperature obtained by removing all substrates and liners from my grow tanks and turning on the heat source to double the normal power, the heat detector read 108.1 and the lab gauge read 110.21 F. On that basis I would say the following . The little thermometer is certainly accurate for the purposes I intended to use. It seems solid enough despite appearing empty and light. I wouldn't test durability by throwing it against a wall, but there were no ill effects from dropping it on carpet. As far as maintaining accuracy over time, I can't test much. I've been using this thermometer for a few months now and it still reads the same accuracy as when I first bought it. I can't tell if it will continue to show the same accurate readings in a year or three, but so far it's still fine. If you need very accurate readings then another thermometer might be better, but for basic use and especially measuring temperatures on reptile breeding shelves this thermometer will definitely do the trick. Considering the cost and level of accuracy, I am happy with my purchase.
