Not very accurate.: Test, measure and check

These are good if you just want to get a rough temperature in the 30-40 degree range. 2 issued next to each other and got 2 COMPLETELY different numbers. Aimed them both at the furnace vent. One read 104, the other 145. Quite a big difference, of course. So if you need more accurate measurement, you can choose another way.

Pros
  • Many will do
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Inaccurate and inconsistent

The gun read 4 degrees Fahrenheit right out of the box. I tested it with two mercury thermometers and another non-contact thermometer. Readings were always low, fluctuating between 4 and 6 degrees. This device gave inconsistent readings at almost any trigger pressure at the same heat source and distance. I tested it using our freezer as the cold source and encountered the same issues.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • It makes me angry

works very well! still fairly reliable and accurate to within a few feet. My only complaint is that the battery installation is a bit annoying and I don't understand why it doesn't have a built-in battery. I mean come on, this is the 21st century. That old Type D battery seems ancient, I haven't used it in years. But hey, that's not a problem, the battery will probably last a year or more.

Almost instant reading, precise laser, acceptable temperature deviation.

This General Tools infrared thermometer is excellent. It's available at a reasonable price, fairly accurate in temperature, and almost instantaneously. My only gripe is that it falls asleep after short periods of inactivity and takes about 3 seconds to wake up again when you pull the trigger, which is a problem if you're taking the temperature, pausing to record it (if you z , perform a power audit) and measure the temperature again 10 seconds after the device has entered sleep mode. Small…

Good value for money

I bought this infrared thermometer to check for missing or worn insulation in a very hot upstairs room. One of the great things about it is that it reads continuously, so you can move the sensor across the blanket and display the temperature as you move it. There's no need to keep releasing and re-pulling the trigger to get a reading. I've also used it to check how hot my car is in the cabin and other interesting things. For the price, this is a great gadget. In terms of accuracy, I have a…

  • Could have chosen a newer model

Our son has been enjoying RC car racing (and car racing) hobbies for a number of years , and he's learned a lot about the impact of proper gearing on runs on all types of surfaces. Preparing for speed runs on tarmac is easy to overload, which creates a lot of heat. too much without a proper cool down time and you'll fry the motor (and sometimes the battery and ESC). He's been talking about getting a heat gun for years and I saw this unit here with good reviews and a good price so we got it for…

Simple and practical

I bought this thermometer for my reptile grow room. I have never used it to measure temperatures above 110F or below 75F and cannot verify accuracy for temperatures outside of that range. However, it proved to be accurate to within 2 degrees. All thermal imager readings were taken 12 inches from the target and measured with a tape measure prior to taking the temperature. I tested the accuracy of this thermometer using sensor devices from my campus chemistry lab. The lab sensor was placed on my…
