Review on General Tools IRT207 Laser Temperature Gun, Mid-Range 8:1 Thermal Detector, Infrared Thermometer by Jeremy Floyd

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good value for money

I bought this infrared thermometer to check for missing or worn insulation in a very hot upstairs room. One of the great things about it is that it reads continuously, so you can move the sensor across the blanket and display the temperature as you move it. There's no need to keep releasing and re-pulling the trigger to get a reading. I've also used it to check how hot my car is in the cabin and other interesting things. For the price, this is a great gadget. In terms of accuracy, I have a friend who has a $99 unit from a well known tool company and it only reads 1-1.5 degrees off his. The only thing I don't like is the auto shut off feature. When you pull the trigger for the first time, it turns on, but doesn't read until you pull it a second time. The device turns off after about 10 seconds, so if you take multiple measurements, it keeps turning off and you have to pull the trigger twice to take another measurement. Apart from that I love it. Only for the early shutdown there were four instead of five stars.

Pros
  • Industrial & Scientific
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
