Review on πŸ”Œ RA003 GM V8 V6 Engine Active Fuel Management AFM Disabler Device for Enhanced Performance by Gage Lawson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Does exactly what it says.

I wouldn't normally recommend anything that can interfere with the increase in fuel economy. I'm also not a proponent of anything other than emission gear. However, in this case, when AFM causes problems, it outperforms the alternative. On my 2016 Silverado with 5.3L, a whole bunch of pushrods were replaced under warranty a few years ago. For some time, the truck made a "humming" noise that I couldn't identify. After some research and a very thorough study, I came to the conclusion that the problem is with the car going into V4 mode. Also, the problem began to appear more frequently and was accompanied by a slight instantaneous drop in performance. Since I had to invest $4,000 in a new transmission, the last thing I wanted was another large repair bill. I decided to try the AFM blocker. I looked at branded products, but decided on cheaper ones. So far, so good. I just had to plug it in and basically go. The LEDs on the device flickered and changed a bit, but so far it hasn't gone into V4 mode since plugging it in. Strangely only 1 LED lit up at first as per the instructions when it is "stable". Now all 4 lamps light up. I don't care anyway as long as it stays in V8 mode. Only time will tell if disabling AFM will result in longer engine life. I'm a little frustrated even trying something like this. Switching between V8 and V4 and back was pretty smooth. Even if the fuel savings are just 1 or 2%, multiplied by hundreds of thousands of drivers who have driven untold millions of miles and gallons, that adds up to a whole lot of fuel. At least for now, I've decided to go this route. Hope the truck lasts for many more years.
