Review on Gofanco Prophecy HDBaseT Extender CAT7 230Ft by Nicole Cook

HDbaseT 2.0 as far as it goes

For the past few months I've been using it for my office PC with a 3840x1600@60Hz display and USB keyboard/mouse and gamepad. This uses a standard CAT6 75 foot patch cord. A few things to note: while it supports an input resolution of 4K@60Hz with 4:4:4 color, the output is somewhere between 4:4:4 and 4:2:2. To my knowledge this is a limitation of HDbaseT 2.0 and the current Valens chipsets and I don't think a competing HDbaseT solution can offer anything better. However, lowering the resolution and/or refresh rate can result in true 4:4:4 color output, e.g. B. if you need to do color-sensitive work temporarily. many USB 2.0 devices on the receiver side. I've tried some of the best host powered USB 2.0 hubs and couldn't get around this limitation. A simple fix would be to use a different CAT to USB cable. However, for my purposes USB provided via HDbaseT worked fine with this device. Edit: I've concluded that this device always does color space conversion (CSC) to "support" 4K@60Hz 4:4:4. Essentially, this means that the resulting image will have a picture quality of 4:2:0 even if the source is 4:4:4. Now this is due to the bandwidth limitations of HDbaseT itself, however other products can perform 'visually lossless' compression via DSC/AVLC, which is likely to result in better picture quality for 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 sources. So in my opinion it is a bit misleading to say that this device supports 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 as the resulting image quality is exactly 4:2:0.

Pros
  • ✔ USB 2.0 EXTENSION - Allows remote control of the source PC from up to 100m away with a USB 2.0 powered keyboard/mouse or an interactive touchpad. High data transfer rates of up to 480 Mbit/s with almost zero latency. Compatible with the latest HDMI sources and displays such as Apple TV 4K, Roku 4, Amazon Fire TV 4K, Cable TV, Xbox One X, PS4 Pro and more. !!A NOTICE!! Does not support HDMI 1.2 and earlier.
Cons
