We wanted to replace the binoculars that my wife and I have used for decades with something better. I'm an avid photographer and often carry a long focal length lens with me on our walks and excursions, which allows me to see objects at a good distance. My wife will also have a camera, but binoculars around her neck. The old pair performed decently, but optical clarity and brightness weren't the best by modern standards. We could pay a lot more for two pairs of Bear Grylls, but above a certain price point you're now paying for a status name, and while one could argue the more expensive the better, the grade as such doesn't match the price increase. So what do we get with this? More compact but more powerful than our old ones. Brighter optics and a slightly higher magnification. 10x vs 7x on our old ones and 42mm vs 35mm on our old ones. This helps in low light, and yes, when we're looking for early morning wildlife, the extra boost of light is very valuable. Rubberized surface for good grip and protection against damage. Waterproof and anti-fog. No, we don't take them to the pool, but the weather can be humid at times. When you transition from the colder, drier air of a cruise ship cabin to the warmer, damper outdoor balcony, you don't want to wait an hour for the fog to clear from the lenses inside and out. They are more compact with a prism on the roof, making them easier to fit in a camera bag or other luggage rack, or even in a large jacket pocket. A shorter minimum focus distance allows us to get a closer look at birds at our back garden feeder. the distance our ancients must focus. In terms of optical quality, I've never looked through the lenses of a thousand dollar binoculars, but the image through them is bright and clear, with good color contrast and clarity, I can see small details well at long range. And all for half the price of some other popular brands and models.
