Single layer glass top is the best feature of this scale. We replaced an old plastic scale that had multiple surfaces between the dial plate and the section that contains the readings and knobs. It wasn't always easy to clean. The readings are large and easy to read, and the simple functions are ideal. Overall the scale feels well built and sleek compared to the old ones we've replaced. The size is large enough to fit all of our mixing bowls. Haven't put a plate on it yet, but I suspect one of them will cover the reading and knobs, so the plan is to put a bowl on top and place the plate on top of the bowl to raise it above the reading . However, I cannot say that it is a design flaw as I do not want a large scale on the counter and would rather have a single surface for its elegance and ease of cleaning.
