I needed an adapter to connect an active mini DP to HDMI cable from a laptop to a DVI only monitor. The standard HDMI adapter plug was too long to fit behind the monitor, but this short cable was just what I needed. I connected the cable to the monitor's DVI port, then connected the HDMI port of the mini DP to HDMI cable to the adapter and the laptop recognized the monitor and automatically set the correct resolution without any intervention. Only it would be better if it was a little longer - maybe 30cm instead of 20cm.
