Wi-Fi not required for streaming media player

I am using this to cast videos from my mobile phone (LG G5 which uses Miracast) to TV when there is no wifi or internet. For example in the mobile home or when the cable and internet are down or when you visit your mother who has no cable or internet. The video files (.mp4) are stored on my mobile phone's SD card. I don't do anything online. All I had to do was plug this dongle into the TV's HDMI port using a standard HDMI cable (not included). Connect the supplied cable to the dongle as well as the USB charger for power. Very important. Do not use the USB port on the TV, it is too weak. Set your TV's "Input" to the correct HDMI port. Once the TV sees the key, an image will appear with the name of the key (write it down) and the default password "12345678". Go to the WiFi settings on the phone and connect to the dongle. the name you highlighted on the TV screen. The key now acts like a router, like your home WiFi, so choose a key name and connect. In your phone's settings, navigate to the option to share your screen with Miracast. How you do this depends on your phone and Android version. turn it on It should search for available devices and display the name of that key. select it I had to repeat this step a few times for it to find the device and connect. It didn't help that I held the phone VERY close to the key. After 8 or 10 searches it finally got connected. Once it says it's connected, your mobile screen will appear on the TV. Now just play the video on your mobile phone and it will appear on your TV screen. As said above, they are stored on my SD card, so I use the file manager on my phone to navigate to that folder and select the videos, just like on a PC. The sound was so low I could barely hear it. even though I turned the TV volume up all the way. The picture quality wasn't very good. I tried another similar dongle (LAIDUOAO) which had better sound and picture quality than this one for just a few dollars more. There is something to consider. This dongle does not plug directly into the TV's HDMI port, but plugs into a male HDMI cable. This dongle has a socket exactly the same as the one on the TV. I haven't used it for any other configuration, just honeycomb to watch TV with no other wifi or internet.

Pros
  • Multi-platform support: Miracast, DLNA, Airplay; Compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, MacOS. Please make sure your Android device supports Miracast if you want to mirror your screen to HD TV or projector.
Cons
  • Actually I don't like it, everything is fine.
