YBW-B Stanwood Needle Punch I first bought it in the summer of 2013. It's summer 2016 and in that time this thing has spun yarn for miles! This works best with yarns that are not "smooth" (any yarn with silk or viscose has been problematic to wrap, no matter how heavy). I wrapped the cake with 880 yards of worsted yarn. . . like a cake! We wound countless Cascades Eco/Eco + 100% wool yarns (250 g/8.75 oz/478 yd). I've rewound acrylic, rewound various "blends" of yarns (blends containing soy, linen, silk, mohair, rayon, silk, cotton, wool and even "fancy yarns"), countless cakes again. . There are several things to keep in mind when working with this reel (since I assume it should be any reel that costs less than $100). "Smooth" yarn can "stick together" in weird ways, and if you don't catch it fast enough, the cake kind of falls apart (turns into a very, very tangled mess). I read a comment on another yarn winder about "looping" the center to improve grip and I'll probably do that. If you wind up large strands there is a risk of breaking plastic gears (I would prefer metal gears). cogs that are covered like these cogs!), so go slow (and remember that the company probably doesn't cover a break, which occurs in excess of the specified amount of yarn). I've been using this little thing for 3 years so I'm not exaggerating when I say my little unit has "miles of yarn" wrapped around it. I am thinking of getting a new one soon as the plastic gears are very worn. I've almost always used my Swift, but I've also occasionally wound up bouncy yarn that I've run into the metal tensioner with my hand (I just don't quite trust the tensioner). Sometimes the riser needs adjustment - I don't know if it's due to weight shifting or something else, but if you're having miswinding issues, give this a try. I've done this to my device more than once in the last three years and it "fixes" often the problem (except with very light and/or smooth yarn - then nothing helps). I definitely recommend this product. I started yarn wrapping as a beginner and I feel like a yarn wrapping pro. In fact, people who have seen my yarn cakes ask about the packaging because "it looks so pretty!" or "it's so neat and tidy!" So I'm not only recommending this product, my "upgrade."
