Review on KMA2900 Multi Mark Multi Purpose Marking Measuring by Roberto Manzer

Useful but limited features

I knew the cons of this tool from other reviews but it was on sale for $10 so I decided to give it a try. The tool arrived in a blister pack. and comes without a case or protective cover. In addition, only one ruler is included, some seller images lead some to suspect that more than one ruler is provided. The body of this Kreg tool is made from the same blue plastic that Kreg uses in many of their tools. The body has two threaded brass inserts that attach the ruler with the knurled handle. A standard spirit level is located on the back of the instrument. The ruler itself measures 6 inches with imperial graduations in 1/16 increments on one side and metric graduations in 1 cm increments on the other side. Directions so you can measure from the right or left. The ruler fits snugly in the recess when straight mounted and is easily and securely adjusted with the thumb knurled knob. I have also found that the ruler on mine fits snugly when installed in a horizontal slot when used as a guide or as a 90 degree angle. The pictures show this Multi-Mark being used at other angles, however there are no angle markings on the body of the tool and the metal ruler easily slides out of position when not inserted into the recessed vertical and horizontal grooves Some use, I can see that this tool will come in handy when used as a base ruler and for quickly marking up layouts. It will also be useful for marking 90 degree corners on 2x4 and setting the height on a TS router or saw. Having an extra layer never hurts either. However, this tool is far from perfect. The large knurled brass knob is great for quick adjustments, but gets in the way and prevents the tool from lying almost flat when trying to use it on a flat surface. As such, this tool is utterly useless for marking any angle other than a 90 degree line on 2x4 (or less) as the handle gets in the way and the ruler can easily slip into an unrecessed vertical or horizontal groove. Note. There is a round notch on the side where the level is located. I thought it would have some utility, but looks like it was just a cutout for the thumb grip to allow for thinner shipping packaging. Overall I am happy with this tool as I will only be using it as a marking gauge. However, this tool could be designed much better with more functionality.
