These are great for crafting and the holes are large so the rope can easily fit through. They are also great for creating some kids games for our school at home, counting and learning multiplication and division. They work great as math manipulations. They are the same color, but you can also color them, which also becomes art. There is a big bag. This is a reusable bag and it's not very small so it's suitable for a five year old. I would let small children handle them as they pose a hazard to them, but they are much larger than a pearl pony so are easier for a five year old to handle with their hands.
