Glued clamshell style with snap on lid. What they don't tell you or mention in the instructions is that the battery has a protective plastic cover that needs to be removed AND this device is not meant to be opened. There is no battery tab to pull to activate. I had 3 sides open and my face started to droop, not the 4th side. I did it for 20 minutes out of sheer stubbornness and gave up. I'm sending it back. Too bad I like the clamshell case and all but it doesn't work until you take the battery cover off.
