Easy Install Repaired Ceiling Fan Harbor Breeze

When my son's ceiling fan broke last month I thought it might be worth fixing - I feel like I can do most things can repair. At least research it. Our fan was still spinning and the light was on, but we couldn't change the fan speed (or turn it off) and turn the light off. Based on some basic troubleshooting and diagnostics, I figured the problem was either with the remote or the receiver. Since the tiny red LED on the remote flickered when the buttons were pressed, I figured the receiver was most likely at fault. I assumed each fan had its own dedicated receiver built into the unit, but they turn out to be pretty versatile. Basically, the receiver sits between your home's electricity and the light + fan. So don't worry about finding the right receiver for your fan, universal ones like this will most likely work. If you see problems similar to mine, grab a ladder and look at your fan wiring. If you see blue, white, and black wires coming from a small receiver on the outside of your fan, then it's working (I'm not sure about LEDs, please do your own research here). The entire replacement took less than an hour and I hope the quality of this receiver is better than what came with the fan. I opened up the receiver to check it out and could see burn marks on the HOT wires as they went in and out of the circuit. I suspect that the fan that was on all night or the lights that were on all the time was too big for him. Great product but the remote control is a bit clunky. I prefer the original smaller remote but at least this one is big enough so my teenage son doesn't lose it that often. It also uses a 9 volt battery, which seems very odd these days. If this receiver ever fails I will definitely update this review. No changes means it still works!
