Don't waste your money on other gates. If it fits the space you need, buy it!

I can't tell you how much money I spent on a gate that was either a) destroyed by my dogs b) thrown away by me because I hated the locking mechanism. So many torn and frustrating gates have gone through my house over the years as I searched for the only real gate that would solve my problems. Those are the goals. They are SUPER strong and durable. As mentioned, I have two very large dogs (Shepherd/Malamute and Golden/Pyrenees, both over 120lbs) who are often very motivated to get through the gate. They mutilated and twisted other, smaller, metal gates. They dismantled the wooden ones. There isn't a scratch on this gate. At this point they are more likely to escape by damaging the wall surrounding the gate than the gate itself. It's so convenient and easy to use. I have an ongoing problem with my wrist and many goals make it worse with complex mechanics. This gate only requires you to press a few buttons. No twisting or twisting of the wrist at an awkward angle. They are on opposite sides of the top bar so my dogs can't do it. (They used to be able to open the gate with a lift latch.) My two year old hasn't figured it out yet. The gates open easily in both directions. You don't have to do anything special to switch it from one direction to the other, just open it the way you want it. How convenient. The only downside I've had with these gates is that they don't need to buy extensions. So if your door isn't narrow enough, you can't use it. I have a problem with the opening between the kitchen and living room, so unfortunately I have to use a side gate there. I wish they would offer a larger version of this or an extension for such large openings.
