As for the rafter squares, this certainly works the same as any other square. I haven't gone far enough to determine how accurate the measurements are, but this should work fine for my purposes. A potential problem in the future could be how well the white marks and lines hold up. They are not etched but appear to be more "painted" and I can see them falling off over time. This can render the square useless as anything other than a right angle. It's also important to note that mine arrived with some dents in the metal.
