This is for dogs with gentle manners. Ideal for puppies or dogs that are too sensitive for a standard spiked collar. Otherwise, a regular 2.25 Herm Sprenger collar is more effective for most dogs. with this collar are too small. I use this "small" size on dogs of all sizes. Adding and removing links takes a little practice, but once you've done it will be easy. This collar is inexpensive and may not last forever, but is easy to replace. Neck hair or thin skin can cause mild skin irritation from plastic tips. Mine didn't have the problem. The collar should fit snugly, high on the neck so only a few fingers can slip under it. If it's too loose, it won't work properly.
