Review on πŸ“¦ Speck Products SeeThru Satin Soft Touch Case for MacBook Pro Retina 13-Inch, Malachite Green (SPK-A1892) by Michael Boyd

It's okay, but far from ideal.

I didn't have a case for my last Macbook Pro and I regret it. Most of the punches and slaps he received really gave him character, just like Steve Jobs wanted. But there were a few that left marks that I really didn't like. So this new Macbook has a cover. I bought it after seeing my girlfriend using one of these on her previous MacBook and bought a new one for her MacBook Air. Here's what I really like: * It looks good. For me it was very important, I usually hate the look of the covers. You might as well throw a plastic wrap over the couch and a black bra over the car while you're there. In fact, I get compliments on my red Mac and people ask where I got the red one from.* It doesn't add size or weight to the MacBook. Again, this is another reason why I hate cases and usually avoid them. Usually the extra bulk bothers me and I end up taking it off. What good is a case if it ruins the user experience.* It seems to protect well - my friend's old MacBook looked new when she sold it. Why not five stars? Why not four? What I don't like:* It's both too difficult to put on and too light. The top cover that protects the lid is very difficult to put on and now that it's on I have no idea how to remove it without damaging it or the lid. Glad I want to keep it. On the other hand, the bottom is pretty thin, especially at the back. It didn't happen by accident, but I should have called it "Bye." I'm pretty sure it will. I also have to take it off regularly because the fragility of the case causes dirt and debris to get stuck between the case and the computer.* It's pretty fragile and the return policy sucks. I already broke the back leg of the lower case. I don't know when or how, but he left. My friend's similar case on her MacBook Air went through three falls and she just gave it up completely. We can return items but they require us to remove the case, send it back and take care of the missing case within the weeks it takes to send us a new one. Great except if I leave my computer without a case for a week or two I probably won't need a case if I get a replacement. It's not that I'm picky about the hardware, but I'm sure it can scratch a surface or two unless protected. Sorry just leaving my broken case which works most of the time. If they improved the fragility or the return process I'd give it a five, even if it still wasn't perfect - that would be good enough. and way better than anything I've seen.

Pros
  • Lightweight, two-piece design for easy on and off.
Cons
  • I have a problem
