I used 3 of these to completely cover a bedroom floor that has medium shag carpet. It flattened out immediately, and has stayed flat, and has stayed in place. Easy to walk over, including with shoes. Easy to cut where and if needed. Purpose is to protect carpet from 3 cats. They seem not to mind that it is there, playing just as actively as before I placed it over the carpet. The runners emitted a relatively strong odor for about 3 weeks, but it has dissipated. I was very concerned about that. But I am glad I gave it time. I am very pleased and pleasantly surprised with this product and will order more for other rooms if needed.
