I am a full time college student and will be using this rack for commuting. Installed directly on my 2017 Surly Ogre with a Surly luggage rack. It's almost perfect for my backpack that lays flat. The main reason I chose this basket over tying a metal basket (or metal bracket) to my bike is that I didn't want the basket to rattle around and require additional improvisation, causing my rear trunk paintwork to crack and rusts /oxidize, and I wanted something easy to install and remove. This roof rack from Thule is just the ticket. It's also easy to boot and feels/looks of decent quality. It was almost ready to be shipped right out of the box. The only assembly was to attach the clamps. However, it should be noted that when using this basket, baskets will most likely not fit. I agree with that though and that's the problem with most peplums. ts. This is one of the reasons I chose this basket. It's easy to remove when I want to use the baskets. This basket comes with four clips. You simply adjust them accordingly and tighten the hex screws. This is a very quick process. less than a minute to turn on and off. The clips have a durable rubber backing and are actually what the basket sits on. The bottom of the basket doesn't touch the shelf which is nice, just the rubber pads on the plastic clips (clips feel firm and not brittle so don't worry). As I said, this prevents additional wear on the frame paint etc. The reason for the four stars is that I find the price of the basket a bit high. Should cost $35-40 in my opinion considering it's nothing more than a glorified plastic box. Plastic bends a bit towards the walls. So that's another reason for the four stars; I'm concerned about durability as another customer/customer reported that their Thule basket broke after leaning their bike against the wall so it would weigh on the basket. The basket looks high-quality, but not indestructible. I've upgraded the original rating to five stars despite the concerns above. I believe this is one of the best basket options out there right now. I would definitely recommend this basket to anyone looking for a light to moderate rack. Just keep in mind that this is a bit small; the sides appear particularly narrow. I was surprised at how small it looked when I took it out of the box, but it served its intended purpose of holding a backpack as you will see in the group photo. If my thoughts and feelings change, I will. before this first check. This is currently one of the best solutions for those who want a quality and well thought out rack.
