I purchased this item to replace an old similar item that eventually died and broke apart after a few years. I installed a new Danco cartridge which it is intended for. I knew from years of experience that it should be tight not loose, but not tight since it's acrylic after all I suppose. It must have been a bad batch as it only took a few hours for the base that fits over the cartridge shaft to shatter into many pieces. Luckily I bought two, so on the second I found a washer that fits into a circular recess on the faceplate with a hole for a screw to go through and where the cover snaps into place. I used two split rings which I placed on the bottom of the barrel to add strength. The barrel is a long, round turret when you're on the underside of the grip, and it's drilled and shaped to fit snugly in the barrel of the cartridge. A day later I found that the second ring was loose and the plastic parts were unable to prevent tears. The first, further down the trunk, looking down on him, remained intact. So now it took almost three days. Wow! I ordered two more as they were designed specifically for the cartridge stock and was hoping it was a different batch. If I must use them I again use a washer under the bolt to distribute the resultant tipping forces and I wrap steel wire around the barrel to hold it in place. I have the original Valley grip on top which is still strong after many years.
