Not exactly sure how others use this, but this tool worked to remove the sink compression bushings in my 1964 house. I don't think I did anything special. just followed the instructions.1. Insert the bit that goes in the tube. into the tube.2. Insert the tool into the bit.3. Clamp the jaws around the compression nut.4. Start by turning the handle - this uses a nut to remove the compression sleeve from the pipe. For subsequent removal of the sleeve from the bit: I mean you used a tool to use a swivel nut to remove the sleeve. So you just turn the nut over and use it to loosen it from the bit. I don't think they made it very clear in the instructions, but it seemed like common sense to me.
