I have a porch light on my front door that uses two standard 100w incandescent bulbs connected in series so it glows much softer and at a lower operating voltage (60v instead of 120v is an old trick for patio lighting and the like). I replaced them with two 5W dimmable LED bulbs and they worked great, running at almost their full 400 lumens despite the reduced individual 60V voltage on each bulb and only consuming 5W due to the series connection. Also the bright yellow-orange light looks much better than the old standard tungsten bulbs. Conclusion: brighter and nicer light, 5 watts instead of 100. No problem leaving it on all night and the bulbs don't burn out for years. I love LED lamps.
