This stuff really works. It holds my carpet-style stair treads on my painted wood stairs very effectively, so my cats can get up and down my steep stairs more easily. Prior to the carpet tape, they were snagging them with their claws and pulling the treads down on top of themselves, making the stairs more hazardous instead of less. I have only had it for month or two, so I can't comment on how well it ages, yet; i.e., how often I will have to replace it.It did pull the paint off my stairs, the one time I had to reposition one of the treads. Beyond that I have not tried to move anything since sticking it down.HELPFUL TIP: do not use scissors--they will stick to the unprotected side and mash it up. It will be a pain to work with. Use a razor blade/Exacto-knife/box cutter, etc., to cut through from the protected side of the tape. After that, stick the tape where you need it, remove the protective backing, then lay the thing you want to secure on top of the in-position tape.
