A great unit to transfer old-style video

Have old VHS tapes around the house? Maybe you transferred them in the past but you need to do it again in better quality or you lost the transfers. Or they are stuck on CDs or DVDs and you want them in computer file MP4 format.Every time you transfer a transfer, you lose some of the quality until you get the equivalent of a xerox of a xerox of a xerox. If you still have the originals and they are in good shape, do what I did and make new transfers. It's easier than ever with this Clearclick device. The small portable box needs external power using the supplied power adaptor. The box has standard RCA jacks for left and right audio, and video. It also has a microphone input (in case you want to do a live voiceover) along with toggles for 720P (DVD) or 1080p (Blu-Ray) resolutionand screen size (4:3 typical TV or 16:9 widescreen). There's also an HDMI out to run to a tv or computer monitor to view the picture while the box records, and a USB slot for a thumb drive to record to.Recording a standard video signal from a VHS source was fast and easy (although it didn't work with the first USB drive I tried). The quality was definitely improved over the original signal (comparing it on the monitor and playback of the recording). Sound quality was good even from a mono VCR source.Hardware limitations restrict the resulting file size to 2 GB and this is the same for most of these devices. Longer videos can be stitched together after recording with the software download indicated in the manual. You can also use the software indicated to split the video into smaller shorter files.I've tested other devices but some required my computer. Others would stretch the image and force the video into widescreen format. No such problems with this device if you set the settings correctly. For simplicity, this device is great and efficient.

Pros
  • Note: Converts and Records From AV RCA Video Sources Only. (HDMI Output Only; No HDMI Input)
Cons
  • Outdated software
