Wheels and Surfaces Shoe Size

This is my first pair of skates in my life. So, as an adult, I tried to learn to roller skate. I enjoy the challenge. I just hate that I trip, lose my balance and often fall when the surface I'm riding on has a small dent or even a small rock in my path when my front wheel hits one of them. There aren't many smooth surfaces to ride in my area. Many of my concrete surfaces have dents or loose stones. Asphalt roads also have a few small potholes, rough patches of concrete or loose rocks, sidewalks are littered with obstacles large and small like concrete slabs, and move up and down like a roller coaster. So it's not easy to find a safe, smooth surface to ride on, and when I do find one, it's usually a small tarmac or parking lot. However, once I find a good skate surface, it's a fun learning curve. It might have been better to get one with larger diameter wheels that handles smaller obstacles better and doesn't trip me up all the time. Also, I wear size 9-9 1/2 shoes, so I ordered a size 10 for skates. For a size 10 they are very tight (too accurate) and sometimes my legs hurt in front (and I don't have wide feet). I don't want to try swapping out a pair though, so I guess I'll just disassemble them for a while and see if the tightening improves over time.
