My propane torch with a nozzle attached directly to the tank went off every time I pointed it down to ignite kindling at the bottom of my solo fire pit. I assumed that liquid propane was clogging the nozzle and that a tank mounted vertically and connected to the nozzle would cure it. I was surprised this one did the same, although not as often. I started lighting it up but it still went out a couple of times. My hypothesis now is that I got it too close to the "cavity" in the kindling and a propane cloud formed around the nozzle and cut off the flow of oxygen needed to sustain combustion.
