Review on Prepac Double Width Storage Cabinet by Mark Morrow

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Very good for €$

Once assembled, the unit is very durable. To keep it that way, I coated the edges with some wood glue, as I know from experience with other manufacturers that the lever locks supplied can come loose. I have about 460 CDs and room for about 200 more. I used the included wall bracket which attaches it to the wall and prevents it from tipping over in an earthquake, but even without it the unit is pretty stable (unlike my old unit which was very easy to tip over when full of CDs was). The quality matches the price, it is a durable hardboard with a black veneer. Only the surfaces visible from the front at a normal viewing angle are veneered, there is none on the underside of the shelves. So if you look at the device from a low seated position you'll see bare fiberboard, but that's to be expected for the price. The shelves fit perfectly and are infinitely adjustable. My only complaint is with the rear setup. They require small nails (about 16 for each half) and it's very easy to hammer one in at an angle as it will come out the side and damage the veneer. This happened to me once, but I was able to glue the broken piece (I glued it back on and then taped it until it was dry). Once dry I removed the tape and touched it up with the touch up pen that came with it and it was barely noticeable. Make sure to hit the hammer slowly and straight! Overall this is a good, solid, good value shelf that just needs a little attention when assembling.
