The lights on my original hood died after almost a year. I was surprised as LEDs don't typically last just a year let alone 15 at a time. So I checked their connections and they were tight, and then I disconnected the connection between the lights and the connector. I found that the connector is badly corroded (as shown in the first two pictures) due to not being properly protected from moisture. With my new hood, I shrink the connector with waterproof tubing (3rd pic) to prevent moisture from getting inside the connector. Just to make sure the previous lights weren't affected by the water, I unplugged the power and plugged the light straight in and the light actually came on. The cause of the LED corrosion was the power connector, not the LEDs themselves. So if you can seal the connection tightly with aquarium safe silicone or waterproof heat shrink tubing, your fixtures will remain functional for years to come. Otherwise, although a little pricey, this is a great product and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a replacement hood for their 15 column aqueon.
