I don't like it yet but haven't washed it yet

They are very stiff and thin and I don't feel they keep out the heat well or offer good support. Are they also a bit - I don't know - slippery? I'm wondering if they can improve after washing which may remove some of the manufacturing shine on the fabric and allow them to bond better and be more flexible.
