I bought them just over 4 years ago and they hardly look worn! I wear them every day during the summer months, just the shoes I take on vacations and hardly ever go hiking (wish I had more now that I'm not chronically depressed). Anyway, they CURE my painful plantar fasciitis that I struggled with for years before I found the Chaco sandals. After having 3 children, I have big, wide, slightly flat feet. Well, the women's soles were rubbing on my feet because the arch was too high, but the men's soles fit perfectly! When my legs swelled during my last pregnancy, I was able to loosen and then tighten the straps to fit. If they start smelling, I just throw them in the laundry. Which usually works. I find it difficult to "clean" belts with that much sand after years of use, which is why they end up with that STINK that doesn't go away when you put them in the washing machine. I figured I'd have to bandage them or throw them away and buy a new pair. I've tried cleaning them with a paste of baking soda and water and then dousing them with hydrogen peroxide. It seemed to help, but nothing could break through the fixed straps. In desperation, I tried putting them in the freezer in ziplock bags overnight and it worked! No sink. In any case, I can only recommend these sandals. You really are amazing. Just think of the freeze trick as they inevitably get super chilly if you're like me and don't floss regularly.
