Review on ๐Ÿ”ต Ritchey Blue Rim Strips, 26x20mm by Steven Pankey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Looks like a professional product. Seems okay so far.

Used on a 20 year old bike with 26" x 2.125" tires. A blue stripe around the 20mm wide rim precisely covers the spoke channel. I used a short Phillips screwdriver to align the valve hole in the band and rim. Others here have used a valve stem to keep the valve holes in line. I climbed a bit just over the edge of the rim, the plastic levers for the tires helped, it was really nice to climb onto the rim. Part of the strip got stuck on the 4 spoke nipples and prevented the strip from being centered. I can't grip the rim tape with my fingers. I used a small plastic spatula to lift the edge so I can grab it and center it properly. I have no idea if that's any better than duct tape, rubber strips, or other products. There doesn't appear to be a seam on the rim tape where it was joined. Looks like a professional product. The original 20 year old rubber rim tape that I replaced still looked good, but when I change tires and tubes I also change the rim tape. I have less than a dozen miles on new rims, tires and tubes.

Pros
  • Rim Tape
Cons
  • Newer model could have been selected
