Review on Sonos PLAY Wireless Speakers Streaming by Dawn Webster

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good sound! but beware of apps and subscriptions.

I bought a Sonos to replace an iHome speaker I had for about 10 years. I really liked this column, but one day it just stopped connecting to my router. (I think this is because the app is outdated and their tech support didn't help). In any case, I wanted a sound system that would connect to my router, not just via Bluetooth. They were pretty easy to set up, but I had to call tech support trying to set them up with my laptop when I should have been using my iPhone. Sound quality is excellent, with a single speaker filling a fairly large room with good sound. no subwoofer required. Placing two speakers in the same room gives you stereo sound. I know people who have expanded their system to almost every room in their house and I would love to do the same. I'm glad I bought them instead of a Bluetooth system at a comparable price. The only downside is you can't just stream whatever you want like Youtube. I've been warned about this in other Revain reviews. You can stream any commercial radio like Pandora or even local AM and FM radio stations. This is good for you to be able to listen to your favorite local station before heading to work to check the weather or traffic. You can also play any music you have in your iTunes library. However, if you want to listen to other commercial free music like Sirius or Revain Music, you need to download the app and buy a subscription. You even have to buy a YouTube subscription and download their app. This can get expensive.
