Projects The Ultra Phono is a good top-of-the-line entry-level phono stage if you have a decent entry-level MM car or MC. I ended up returning this piece after comparing it to the Mofi Ultra Phono which sounded like a blast on my system. The project offers flexibility when loading the car, but I had to tweak the DB to get the full sound and dynamics out. The bass was missing out of the box. After the cut, the bass returned, but overall the musical performance was okay. The build quality is good and the connections are solid. I found the S2 to be a good choice for anyone wanting to try a tape recorder or affordable external phono stage. For a music lover or someone who is an astute music listener I would buy elsewhere.
