dramatic improvement in fidelity

not sure if it was an upgraded stylus I installed at the same time but a definite improvement over the phone preamp on my Marantz SR5013. The instructions for the switches were a bit confusing at first glance.

Pros
  • electronics
Cons
  • unsure

Very good sound with Pro-ject DC Evo and Moonstone pickup

Sounds great, a huge improvement in almost everything over the Schitt Mani ($139). Mani was way better than what was in my high quality AV receiver. Getting this quality was $1000 so what's up.

Pros
  • Home audio
Cons
  • boring packaging

I liked it at first, then I got "listening fatigue " in

Out of the box it sounded very detailed and voluminous, but after a while it seemed to me that my records sounded too bright, even pierce. Perhaps my favorite records were poorly recorded and S2 only highlighted their flaws? I left it on for many hours, set the switches correctly (despite the sketchy instructions) and found a good source (Ortofon Blue in the Rega P2). I really tried to love the S2, but it just didn't sound like something I could live with and pay for. So I returned it.

Pros
  • Home theater
Cons
  • Requires an outlet

Good entry-level phono stage.

Projects The Ultra Phono is a good top-of-the-line entry-level phono stage if you have a decent entry-level MM car or MC. I ended up returning this piece after comparing it to the Mofi Ultra Phono which sounded like a blast on my system. The project offers flexibility when loading the car, but I had to tweak the DB to get the full sound and dynamics out. The bass was missing out of the box. After the cut, the bass returned, but overall the musical performance was okay. The build quality is good

Pros
  • Receiver and Amplifier
Cons
  • Low Repairability

Preamps have personality

Hello. I bought this very nice Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 Ultra and returned it for a refund. Thanks Revin I reviewed Schiit Mani and sent it back. My sensitive ear heard white noise coming from the mani preamp. And with the Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 Ultra I heard less bass. These two modern preamps are compared to my Phoenix system P100 Mag from the mid 1970's. This review focuses on the Pro-Ject Phono Box. Very quiet circuits. Phenomenal stereo separation. Beautiful sound. Clear, clear sound. NO bass…

Pros
  • Preamps
Cons
  • I have no negative feelings about it, everything is fine
