Review on Amcrest NV4108 HS 8 Megapixel Pre Installed NV4108 1TB by Dave Hammon

I've been using their MPX 8 channel "analog" 4K DVR for over a year now and use it with a variety of cameras from D1 to UHD to power my AI system to test and the 24/7 recording of the last week or so. After installing several 5MP and 4K IP cameras I wanted to add their 24/7 recording and it looked perfect - good price, a network connection so I can use my existing router and POE inserter. Minus one star for constantly squeaking as they made me go through their overly complicated initial password setup. Minus another star for sending with outdated and non-working firmware. In fact, I was so upset that I initiated the return process. After updating the firmware I decided to cancel the return as it can do what I want - record my rtsp streams 24/7 and stream to my artificial intelligence system. The IP cameras respond to this device's Onvif request so they work isn't too bad, but the setup page is poorly organized and translated - what should be 'OK' is 'Save'. If it doesn't respond to the request, good luck typing the stream URL on the lame virtual keyboard. Apparently there is no way to use a real keyboard or cut and paste URLs from a text file. If you want to use this for true live monitoring you will be very disappointed as switching between views is horrendously slow and the "jerky" live monitoring obviously loses a lot of frames, but 4K footage seems to lag on playback to be okay I exported a 2 minute 4K clip to a USB drive, the quality looked good, but the format is kind of a lame "dav" file instead of mp4 which can cause playback issues depending on your system. Overall, I expected more from Amcrest.
