This fastener solves the problem of broken strings. I had to change the rope every few weeks because we used the gate more often. I tried the chain. It worked better than the rope but changed position where it was attached to the outside of the gate. As a result, it was too short and the gate could not be locked. Guests and workers left it unlocked and our dogs kept running away. It solves the problem in style without spending a lot of money. It was pretty easy to install. My only problems were caused by the old gate, not the latch.
