I bought this to cut templates out of 6mm mylar. Two hot knives were useless. I waited for the tip to get hot enough, but that never happened; The stem of the nozzle only smoked for about 15 minutes until I turned it off and changed the tip. Luckily the brass conical cone was just the ticket and I quickly pumped up and completed the large intricate template in a matter of hours. My favorite tip is to put the tracing pen under the glass pane and Mylar on top. Then there is no need to repeat the pattern on the mylar. I had a broken pane of glass from a photo frame - it doesn't have to be very big - it's just shifted under the mylar.
